Introduction.
The lawn, despite its apparent simplicity, requires careful planning and subsequent care. Even a small mistake can lead to problems and the death of plants. How to properly prepare a lawn and take care of it, we will tell you in this material.
Classification of lawns.
Normal or park lawn.
The most common option. Lawn is very popular in landscape design, in garden areas, in parks and gardens. You can walk on it and at the same time it does not require large expenses.
Such a lawn consists of broad-leaved and narrow-leaved grasses in different proportions. One of the disadvantages of this lawn is the need for frequent mowing.
Front or parterre lawn.
The most beautiful green lawn that requires constant mowing. Unlike the usual one, it cannot be walked on and is very demanding to external factors.
For it, a special grass is used, for example, a meadow sedge or a tonka tonka. If you choose it, you need special skills and knowledge to care for it.
Moorish or flowering lawn.
Such a lawn is created in the form of a blooming meadow with a large number of colors. Here the flowers are selected so that there is flowering from early spring to late autumn.
When landing, this fact complicates planning. If you make a mistake, the wrongly selected flowers will leave the lawn without flowers for a while. It is also better to place such a lawn on sunny areas.
Meadow lawns.
This type of lawn is considered an option “for the lazy”, as it does not require a lot of attention. It differs from the usual by the presence of flowering wild plants.
Despite the fact that such a lawn is not capricious in courting, it is necessary to choose the right plants for its planting so that it does not look like an abandoned wasteland
Weedless lawn.
Unlike other lawns, this one consists of only one type of plant. For example, only clovers or daisies.
Despite its seeming simplicity, it is difficult to care for such a lawn, since all work has to be done only by hand.
Rolled lawn.
This is the simplest type of lawn for the end user. It is specially grown and sold in rolls like a carpet. All that remains is to lay it on the prepared ground.
Despite its simplicity, this is the most expensive type of lawn. But this fact is covered by the saved time and effort that would have been spent on planting your lawn.
Other types of lawn.
It should be noted in passing that there are specialized and sports types of lawn. The first are used for some purpose (for example, protection of slopes from collapse), and the second are on sports fields.
Preparatory works.
When you have decided on the type of lawn, or there may even be several types, now you need to carefully prepare and plan everything.
Visually or on paper, divide the area. Calculate the area, estimate the lighting of the site and think over the plan of the paths, if there are none. Also, take into account that the site is not only beautiful, but also convenient both for living and for further care of the lawn.
After evaluating the relief, the area of the plots, think about where and what will grow. The time of planting depends on the choice of plants.
Before planting, prepare the site itself. Form a relief, remove irregularities, or vice versa, if it is planned to make slopes. Clear the area of debris, weeds, stones and snags. Weeds, if the soil is hard, can be removed manually during digging.
It is necessary to dig the ground at a depth of about 20 cm, without reaching the sand layer. During digging, you will definitely find finds in the form of stones and garbage. Do not forget to clean them. It is also worth pulling out all the weeds with their roots right away. Fertilizers can be additionally added during digging.
Many gardeners have already encountered these works and therefore the whole process will be familiar. But in contrast to beds, the future lawn must be compacted after loosening so that the lawn is hard and does not collapse when you walk on it.
After all the preparatory work, you can additionally form the borders of the lawn, put up decorative fences and lay paths.
Sowing the lawn.
You can sow a lawn at almost any time of the year, but be sure to consider the germination of certain seeds. Sowing rates are indicated on the seed package.
You can sow both with the help of equipment and by hand – scattering them on the ground behind2 events from different directions. After that, it is necessary to walk over the area with a rake, thereby drowning the seeds in the soil. Additionally, you can pour a small layer of 1-2 cm peat on top and be sure to water everything carefully.
At the end of everything, the earth must be rolled again, thereby finally forming a solid surface.
Lawn care.
After planting, if there is no rain outside, it is advisable to water every day during the week so that the seeds get the necessary moisture and get stronger.
The lawn should be watered regularly, not allowing the soil to dry out. It must also be done after weeding and mowing.
Mowing the lawn allows you to keep it attractive. But you need to take into account what type of lawn you have planted. After all, it is unlikely that you will want to constantly mow flowers on a blooming lawn.
Don’t forget to weed the weeds. They will definitely grow on the lawn and spoil the appearance.
It is also necessary to feed the plants. This can be done during watering. And some types of feeding require this without fail. Highly concentrated fertilizer can have a negative effect on plants and even destroy the lawn.
And, most importantly, do not forget to mechanically clean the lawn with a rake. And in the spring, with the same tool, it is recommended to lightly harrow the top layer of the earth to help plants sprout.
A few recommendations.

- After sowing, it is necessary to water very carefully so as not to wash the seeds with water and not to damage them.
- Sowing should be done in windless weather. Also, the soil should not be dry. If necessary, water it before sowing.
- One of the best methods of sowing is considered to be mixing grass seeds with a small amount of sand.
- If there is a choice when to plant – spring or autumn, choose autumn. This will give a stronger lawn with fewer weeds.
